A rare form of cancer usually affecting either the chest or pleura or the abdomen or peritoneum of the patient, Malignant Mesothelioma is most common among people that have been exposed to asbestos particles sometimes during their life cycle.

Mesothelioma Life Expectancy

While the pleural mesothelioma happens to be the common form of ailments among those suffering from this form of cancer, peritoneum mesothelioma is less common form of the disease. Swelling of the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, and bowel obstructions are the common symptoms of peritoneum mesothelioma.

There is however, a third and even rarer form of the cancerous disease. It is known as the pericardial mesothelioma that involves the sac that surrounds the heart of the patient.

Two major mesothelioma cell types are epithelial and sarcomatoid. Though usually only one of the two types is predominant in a patient, at times both these types could combine together making the malignant mesothelioma even more complex in nature. Out of the two types, sarcomatoid form is rarer in comparison and is found in only 15% cases of malignant mesothelioma.

Another very unusual and rare form of disease is the one that originates from benign and non-malignant cells and that is why this form of the disease is named benign mesothelioma that is curable using surgery.

Unlike other forms of cancer, the Mesothelioma Life Expectancy is greater in comparison since it takes around twenty to thirty years for the disease and its actual symptoms to surface after the patient was exposed to asbestos particles.
