Candles are used to add beauty to homes but this beauty can cause big hassles and frustrations on mishandling. Anyone who has ever experienced the spilling of melted wax on the carpet can understand how irritating and terrible this situation is. Acting immediately is very important because, as the wax changes its state from melted liquid to solid, it gets attached to the rug.
That hardened mass cannot be removed from the carpet at once without destroying it. Therefore you need to be careful with carpet or rug cleaning when it is about dealing with wax. Removing the wax is easy if you handle it the right way. First of all, you should try to remove the wax by hand, butter knife or a blunt blade; vacuum the remains.
Next step is to place a clean towel or a piece of cloth over the wax. If you do not have any piece of cloth near you then place a paper bag over it. It should be followed by warm ironing just to melt the wax. A hot hair dryer can also be a good alternate. The melted wax stick to the piece of cloth and can easily be lifted.
If the candle wax is colored, it may leave stain on the tile cleaning. The more the heat is applied, the stain further locks into the fibers. So, this is why only a warm iron should be used. Remember not to use any newspaper or anything with printed words/images as the image would be transferred by applying heat to the ink. In any case, if after removing the wax, the stain is left, you will have to deal wisely with that too.
You may easily fine a carpet spot cleaner or stain cleaner. Even stain remover for clothes, dishwashing liquids and detergents can do the same work. Take any of these and just dab onto the stain. Rubbing is not advised as the stain spreads with rubbing and the carpet fibers wear out as well. After wards, rinse it with a wet sponge until the entire cleaner is gone. So, keep these points in mind, and if not sure, just call in an expert to help you with rug, carpet and tile cleaning.
